🇬🇧 Inspiration for this episode came from Lari Basilio wining a music festival in 2014 with her excellent Walking by Faith. Electric guitar is less common in traditional Brazilian music, but we bring our outstanding guitarists in a selection that may sound more like hard rock or jazz. We’ll meet masters Pepeu Gomes and Victor Biglione. Ulisses Rocha, usually playing the acoustic guitar, is always in shape to play the electric guitar too. We also bring our friends from Brazilian-Rock-Pop scene, 14 Bis and Cor do Som, that always fed us with good riffs and instrumental recordings. Special mention to guitarist Almir Stocker (the Alemão of Alemão e Zezo and who also plays in Cor do Som and Grupo Medusa). Electric guitar use to walk along heavier bass, drums and keyboard, so pay attention to these too !Read More
Enfim, a música do mundo todo !
🇬🇧 Joyce Moreno, or just Joyce, globally recognized for her Bossa Nova tunes, writes, plays and sings music non stop since the 60s. Her scat works (singing without lyrics) is huge and original. One of my preferred compositions is Feijão com Arroz, from one of the albums she released with her husband, the drummer Tutty Moreno. There is also Ulisses Rocha, one of our acoustic guitar colossus, playing one of his most complex compositions. His perfectionism is absolutely impressive. Then we visit the extraordinary Quinteto Armorial in the 70s for a taste of how they left their mark forever in the Northeast music. Heading South, we stop in Rio for a nostalgic composition of K-Ximbinho by Zé da Velha e Silvério Pontes. We also visit Neymar Dias, versatile multi-instrumentist from São Paulo’s music scene that explores new possibilities for the Brazilian viola. And then we arrive in Rio Grande do Sul for a modern execution of an Hermeto Pascoal theme written for and played by Renato Borghetti. This is beautiful episode, enjoy !
🇬🇧 This first program is a mix of many styles. We travel between the renovated Choro of Nó em Pingo D’Água, outstanding acoustic guitar player Ulisses Rocha and go from North East Brazil with SaGRAMA, Spokfrevo to extreme South with Renato Borghetti, passing through the midcountries with Paulo Freire. Enjoy !
